The Death of Lovers
My Beautiful Decay 1973
The Death of Lovers by My Beautiful Decay 1973 is a contemporary classical meditation on what remains when love disappears. Originally composed in 2024 as a commissioned work for the Polish string ensemble; NeoQuartet, the piece premiered at the Neo Arte Synthesizer of Arts Music Festival in Gdańsk. Inspired by Charles Baudelaire's poem The Death of Lovers from Les Fleurs du Mal, the music unfolds through five interconnected variations of the same emotional state: trying to let go when love dies. Delicate string textures gradually dissolve into subtle electronic layers, creating a suspended space between intimacy, grief and transcendence.
A recurring vocal motif runs through the focus track Lost in the ocean: “Lost in the ocean , Led by the stars, We hold on to hope, They go through the dark.” The words become a quiet thread through the music, moving from loss and disorientation towards an uncertain but persistent sense of hope.
